Zhu Zhu Pets: Online Retailers Are Out of Stock

Looking for Zhu Zhu Pets? Good Luck..

Heather K. Adams
The popular gift item this year are Zhu Zhu Pets - small, electronic hamsters that squeak and run like a real hamsters, but without the mess of the real deal.

There are four different hamsters: the light brown Mr. Squiggles, the yellow Pipsqueak, the grey Num Nums, and the white hamster Chunk. They come with multiple accessories such as hamster balls, surfboards, cars, hamster houses, and more.

Touted as "the hottest toy of the season", parents are flocking to purchase these cute little non-pooping hamsters for their children for Christmas.

How do I know this? Everywhere I looked online, Zhu Zhu Pets are out of stock.

If you go to zhuzhupets.com, you will find a list of retailers who sell the Zhu Zhu Pets online.

WalMart.com lists the price for each Zhu Zhu Pet at $8.00, but every single hamster and Zhu Zhu Pet accessory was sold out online.

The next retailer listed was Toys R Us, but their website, which listed the price for each hamster at $9.99, was out of stock online as well. Same with Target, which didn't list the price because it was out of stock, and eToys, which listed the price for Zhu Zhu Pets at $12.99.

Why do I keep mentioning the prices when the Zhu Zhu Pets are sold out online? Keep reading, I do have a point.

There was one place online where frantic parents are able to buy Zhu Zhu Pets and accessories: Amazon.com. However, there is a catch. Each Zhu Zhu Pet retails for four times the price one would find them at Walmart.com or even Toys R Us.

The cheapest Zhu Zhu Pet on Amazon.com is being sold for $44.95 (Chunk). The highest price is Mr. Squiggles at $48.48. Apparently Mr. Squiggles is more popular than his overweight brother.

However, you can purchase a set of three for $135.99, which if they included the cheapest three pets, would save you a whole $2.16.

Even the accessories for the Zhu Zhu Pets come with elevated prices. The typical prices for the accessories ranged from $10 - $20 on the other websites. On Amazon.com, these same Zhu Zhu Pet accessories range from $30 - $70.

If your child has his heart set on owning a Zhu Zhu Pet for Christmas, better open your wallets, take out a second mortgage, and act quickly. These Zhu Zhu Pets are selling like they're going out of style.

I think these were just a fad at the time. Kinda like those Ferby's many years ago. You don't hear much about them now, and it's only 4 months after Christmas.

Take a minute and use some logic - if you and I can't find these things anywhere, what makes you think anyone else is having any luck?? Do you seriously think there's some dude in a trench coat filling a shopping cart somewhere with these things? The guy who gets two or three to resell on eBay is not causing this problem. He's likely someone - like you - trying to make a few bucks so he can buy something for his own kid's for Christmas! The true RATs here, the dirt bags are the RETAILERS!!!

Give me a break! The reason your kid doesn't have a zhu zhu pet isn't because some poor schmuck lucked out and bought two or three from Target to resell. The "greedy dirt bags" here are the retailers who created this hype for a toy they either can't stock or are using as a tool to get people into their stores (falsely). You know, the same entities that are running circulars every week stating they have these things but really don't?? And you find this out after waking up at 5 a.m. and waiting on line for an hour?? Like the 50 that were in stock at every Toys R Us across the land last Wednesday....Or the one's that supposedly showed up at CVS this week yet, mysteriously, no CVS in my area got them in (despite the big ad in their circulars). And, if any store has them? They are probably sitting on what little stock they have so they can gouge! Think I'm nuts, take a look at www.etoys.com. A four pack of rats is in stock - for $80!! A little inflated, don't you think?! Take a minute and u

The manufacturer is hold back stock in a cynical move to increase demand. Vote with you purse and buy something else for your kids.

Sorry Linda, but I do not consider paying $39.97 a reasonable price for an $8.00 toy. Thanks to the greedy dirtbags who are price gouging these toys, my 7 year old will just have to wait until her birthday to get one of these. You people should be ashamed. But hey, greed is the American way, huh?

This is where I found the Zhu Zhu Pets and the Mattel MINDFLEX game reasonably priced and without the hassle of bidding on eBay:

You can try www.FastGiftAlert.com. They will notify you the moment the Zhu Zhu's are put back in stock at Amazon at the regular price, and you can beat everyone to them. On Thanksgiving, I showed it to two of my cousins who are now using it to try to get the Zhu Zhu for their children.

Goodness. My son might have to wait to get one till his birthday in February.

Its highly priced on Amazon because third party retailers are taking advantage of the shortage. Just wait till Amazon restocks and you probably can get them from Amazon at $8. I'm waiting using www.watchmyitems.com to alert me when they do and make my kids happy.

Geez, I should have bought one of these instead of the four REAL rabbits I have. I've never seen so much poop!!!
