on any store shelf or website though - they can't keep themstocked.
Zhu Zhu Pets are not just a toy hamster. Their site itself claims that they are the world's first innovative, realistic, interactive, plush, and artificially intelligent hamsters that talk and move around in their own play sets. Ask any kid what that means and you will probably told to some extent that, "they move around and make funny noises like real hamsters."
Play sets, carriers, and even blankets are available for these electronic hamsters. The play sets are bought in pieces and then each piece is able to connect to make a bigger play set. These Zhu Zhu Pets are living any real hamster's dream.
Given the fact that the real hamster is such a popular children's pet it does make since that a toy with these realistic features could be popular. Zhu Zhu Pet's own website lists fun facts for moms that encourage them to compare the costs and mess of a real hamster to that of a Zhu Zhu Pet. The other appeal and possibly the biggest is that both boys and girls alike want a pet hamster.
Check your local Wal Mart or Toys R Us and you will probably find a bare shelf except maybe for a few of the blankets or carriers. For eight dollars a hamster they are not a bad deal, but both stores completely sold out? The web sites for both stores also lists each of their four different type of Zhu Zhu Pet hamster as sold out. Their play sets, carriers, and blankets all sold out as well.
So where can you find them? If you ask at your local Wal Mart or Toys R Us store when they will be receiving their next shipment they will probably tell you. They may also warn you to be there early to get in line. This is what they told me at my own local stores. My local Toys R Us has placed a limit of four hamsters per purchase. They also warned me that they enforce it. I guess any thirty something mom could come across as a threat when Zhu Zhu Pets are involved. The only place I could find them is eBay or what I may consider calling ePay. What sounded like a good deal at eight dollars a hamster is going for around three times that on eBay. If you are willing to pay more you will have many to choose from.
If you have a child begging for a Zhu Zhu Pet be prepared to search and then search some more or be prepared to pay more.

That is terrible to have it taken away from your daughter like that. They have been hard to find for months!
I was at Walmart last night and took a hamster to the register and they told me they couldn't sell it to me with my 6 year old duaghter standing right there took it away. (Was told by an employee they had 28 in the back and they were holding them for a promotion). That is why you can't find the on the shelf!!!!
