Zip Around in a Mazda Miata This Summer

Drive the Car You Never Knew You've Always Wanted!

If it's functional and practical you want, the Mazda Miata may not be your first choice. However, if it's fun and fun that you want - read on! The Miata is the most fun you'll have behind the wheel. It's like the car happens to you. At first, you may like the way it looks, but once you sit in the seat, turn the key, hear your favorite tunes and put that top down - you'll like the way it feels. The little Miata is set apart from other sporty cars.

It's not just fun, it's stylish. Unlike other cars in its class, the Miata before 1996 has a rather long body giving it more of a sleek look. The newer models (2000 to present) are more contemporary looking with deeper seating and less of a low-to-the-ground feeling. Both are nice, and each of them has its pros and cons.

Although the Miata looks expensive, it's not in comparison to its closest competitor which may run for 10,000 dollars more. And although style is important, the gas tank is equally important when choosing to buy a new or used car. The Mazda Miata steps up to the plate at the pump, too. Renowned for excellent gas mileage, superior road handling and notorious for not going in the shop makes this car a joy.

Of course, the Miata is available with an automatic transmission, but anyone with a passion for driving will appreciate the five-speed manual model. Wherever you zip around, expect to be noticed. This car is not for the shy at heart. In the summer with the top down, onlookers will frequently approach you asking you the model of your car and where you got it. Naturally, you'll smile and say, "It's the greatest thing I've ever done for myself."

With every choice in life, there is a "give and take" factor. Some things to consider when buying a Miata are that only two people can fit in the car and there is no storage behind the seats. The trunk is big enough for two carry-on pieces of luggage, but not much more. It is also very low to the ground and not recommended for wearers of mini-skirts!! Also, if winter driving is a consideration, the purchase of a hard top (about $600) may be necessary.

However, all kinds of people drive and enjoy the Miata. The 2005 model runs about 20,000 and lower mileage older models can be very affordable, too. Like many other cars that fall in a class by themselves, the Miata offers a "club" for the serious enthusiast. To find a club in your area, go to: www.miata.net/clubs/nam.html. These clubs are nationwide and like the Miata they're fun! Most clubs have competitive racing. Sometimes members just get together for dinner, and other times they plan more vacation-like trips or sightseeing weekends. There is usually a very low annual fee of less than fifty dollars to join and many couples and singles find it a great source of entertainment.

Whatever your reason for buying the Miata, one thing is sure: you'll never regret your decision.
