Zoho: Online Word Processing

T. Jay Kane
Zoho.com is an online office suite provided free of charge to Internet users around the world. The program is a conglomerate of the most essential office suite applications including a word processor, slide show creator, spread sheet creator, and more. The service allows users to create and store office documents via the web for easy access from anywhere an Internet connection is available.

This service is a great idea for anyone who works from multiple computers but doesn't want to have to worry about remembering their portable hard drive or damaging one of its components. Anyone who has felt the feeling of losing a hard drive will know that it is a feeling which is not pleasant. By storing your documents online you will greatly reduce your dependency on portable hard drive products.

Logging into your Zoho office suite is as easy as logging in to an e-mail address. Sign up for a free user name and password to begin enjoying the benefits of online word processing.

The user interface offered by the Zoho.com applications is very similar to other big name office suites available on the market. Documents saved to Zoho.com servers may be kept private or publicly shared, which means that group members can cooperate on a project together from anywhere in the world. Project supervisors can also use Zoho to keep track of project progress and communicate with project team members from a distance.

The Zoho platform also incorporates mail and chat services which means that a person could essentially work on a project while keeping up with team input and supervisor requests for updates.

Backing up your documents on the web is also a safe way to ensure that you never have to scramble to get to a specific computer or word processing program. Since Zoho is a web service it means that it can be operated from any operating system that allows access to the web. Zoho has essentially transformed the web browser into the free office suite.

Documents created in the Zoho platform may be exported into traditional file formats which include .doc, .docx, .rtf, .html, .pdf, .txt, and more. Documents created outside of the Zoho platform can also be imported onto the Zoho servers for editing and storage.

It would appear that Zoho.com has filled the void between word processing software, office suites, and operating systems. Zoho.com now makes it possible for any document to be opened, read, and edited from any Internet connection in the world.

Zoho.com is provided free for individual use. Businesses and corporations may be charged for use. Non-profit organizations are eligible for discounts on services.
