Zombie Apocalypse... How to Survive

Julie Croz
No one knows how it will happen, but everyone can tell you; the Zombie Apocalypse will happen.

It might be brought on by science, in a Dr. Frankenstein type scenario. It might be brought on by the occult, witches and wizards. It may even be a divine work, with purposes we cannot comprehend. But we know. We know it will happen.

The question is; "How will you survive?".

Avoidance

Of course the undead will be the obvious threat, but not the only one and by far not the most dangerous. Once society is lost and authority is but a dim memory, the real monsters come out. The ones that were held back by the forceful arm of the law. But the arm is gone, and the maniacs are running free. For this reason alone, you should avoid impulsive close contact with any other human being that you do not know well. You doubt me? You still have faith in the "goodness that is inside us all"? Answer me this, how many murderers and sociopaths go unnoticed, leaving behind neighbours claiming that they were "so normal"?

Protection

Arm yourself. Firearms are very useful, but the bullets do run out. For this very reason, make sure you have on you, at all time, a few weapons for close combat. Zombie Apocalypse is the perfect time to bust out those pretty swords you bought on the shopping network.

Knowledge

Knowledge may help you survive and protect yourself even more than weapons can. Good first aid knowledge may help you dress a wound correctly or avoid infecting it. Good mycology and botany knowledge may help you find food in the wild. Good wilderness and biology knowledge may help you capture and skin rabbits.

Travel

Should you need to travel, cars are fast, but they have two problems. They use gas, which, much like bullets, eventually runs out, and they are noisy. Loud sounds may bring the attention of zombies and human alike and, as mentioned above, the latter should be feared most.

The answer is to be on foot, which allows you to hide, if you are in a city, or use horses, which are faster, if you are in the country.

Should you use horses, or any other means of transportation, do not overwhelm them with belongings. The idea is that if you must make a quick getaway, having supplies already on you will save you time whereas having to unload a horse or a car may cost you precious minutes.

Lastly, these tips may help you, but remember that in the end, when society is gone and only a few remain, nature will take over. To survive, you will need to be one with it and follow its rules.
