Later retitled Sugar Hill & Her Zombies set convincingly in the lush tropics of the Island Haiti, ( yet filmed in Texas) Sugar's boyfriend Langston LARRY D. Johnson is murdered by some local gangsters for not selling his business " Club Haiti" to their boss Morgan, stylishly played by the usually sinister ROBERT Quarry ( Count Yoga, Vampire & Phantom Empire) here he revels as a hateful racist sporting a sinful southern drawl as the mean power hungry boss.
This is a story about revenge and the ruse used by Sugar is voodoo with a little help from resident priestess & voodoo queen, Mama Maltresse, wickedly portrayed by ZARA Culley ( The Jeffersons & All In The Family)
Mama Maltresse summons the King Of The Graveyards, voodoo god and great lover of his time, Baron Samedi memorably cast with sarcastic glee by DON Pedro Colley (The Dukes Of Hazzard series) he awakens his kingdom of the dead an entourage of still shackled slaves to fulfil Sugar's desire that one by one she would see Morgan and his muscle die slowly.
Nice and nasty, with ease, beauty and style (killer wardrobe created for Marki Bey by NORBART Valentino) Sugar has imaginative ways of getting rid of those involved in her boy friend's murder by decapitation, voodoo doll rituals, involuntary suicide, vics served alive to starving pigs and snakes, and a quick sand drowning to say the least... it's pure fun and entertaining.
Even the local detective, a non believer played by RICHARD Lawson (Scream Blacula Scream) has a time trying to prove voodoo as a theory with dead skin and mold as evidence until he stumbles upon an 1840's slave shackle known for its powerful juju at the scene of one of the heinous crimes.
Memorable lines by Baron Samedi as he serves up a killing: It's on da house!
Funny Scenes: The preacher to Detective Valentine after he witnesses a killing, "I don't wanna see nothing like that again ever...if I see them again I sure hope they don't recognize me!"
the laughs, Sugar rolls her eyes watching the hungry piggies go at it on one of Morgan's screaming muscle, "I hope they're into white trash" Sugar muses with non chalance
And some ...oh no they didn't go there! "teehee" slurs by Morgan's racist moll, Celeste, BETTY Anne Rees who gets quite a fun come uppence.
Low budget yes, but a fun watch!
