Zorro to Slash on Wii

Prepare to slash that "Z" against your opponents, Wiimote-style: the defender of 1800's Spanish California -- and alter-ego of fictional wealthy caballero Don Diego de la Vega -- is headed exclusively to Nintendo's popular motion-sensing console. Publisher 505 Games, in conjunction with developer Pronto Games, will bring The Destiny of Zorro to Wii owners late this year.

In The Destiny of Zorro, players will take the role of the infamous swashbuckling "defender of the oppressed" as they battle across the desert landscape and sun scorched coast of the early 1800's Spanish California.

The game holds the promise of both action and romance, with innovative game play being the highlight of the adventure as they whip, slice and perform Zorro's signature 'Z' slash move, using the motion-sensitive Wiimote controller, which will practically put players in the role of the hero himself. True to the source material, The Destiny of Zorro will take plenty of inspiration from the Mexican, Spanish and Native Southwest American cultures prevalent in early in1800's California, the time of the original Zorro.

Early plot details are starting to trickle out. For instance, the game's story will see Zorro confronting the nefarious Calavera and his troops in an attempt to stop them from stealing a valuable treasure. Zorro will also have to take on a power-hungry mob boss and even face down a powerful rebel army. Expect to uncover some of the most pervasive secrets behind the origin of Zorro and experience some of the plot lines stemming from some of the most recent Zorro properties, including many of the recent blockbuster movies adapted from the Zorro series itself.

Speaking on the announcement of The Destiny of Zorro, Pronto Games President and Creative Director Randy Angle had this to say: "Swashbuckling Zorro is the perfect character for the Nintendo Wii... We had a very short list of characters when we first considered making an action game for the Nintendo Wii...
The Destiny of Zorro is currently scheduled for a late fall 2007 release, and is pending receipt of rating by the ESRB. The Destiny of Zorro promises action, romance and, by use of the innovative Wii controller, the unique thrill of 'becoming' the great hero himself.
