Zumba: Fit for a Healthy Life in 2011

Dannielle D
After watching several infomercials on television about this rhythmic Latin workout and Dance craze, I knew my life was about to change due to Zumba. Combining Cardio, Sculpting, and Toning, the 5-set DVD package featured several workout/dance routines which were both energetic and exciting. After beginning Zumba around mid-October of 2010, I developed a more positive and healthier outlook on life. No longer did I feel depression on my weight gain, but I began to feel renewed and rejuvenated.

Shortly after beginning the workout routines on Zumba, I began to follow a strict diet and workout schedule to initiate the weight loss. While opening the 5-set DVD package, I reviewed and followed the Zumba Total-Body Transformation Guide in order to see outstanding results. While reading through the Guide, I discovered the weekly workout/diet plan which would fit my needs: The 10-Day Accelerated Fat-Loss Program. Designed to promote extensive weight loss, the program claimed viewers could "lose a pant or dress size". I followed the program's daily workout routine, by combining Zumba Cardio Party, Sculpt & Tone, Flat Abs, and Zumba Live! With workout routines outlined on a per-day basis, it was easier to accommodate with my hectic schedule. I stayed committed to my workout regime, working out for 3 days and enjoying a "Free Day" on my 4th day. On the 5th day I started the process over.

In order to see positive weight-loss results, I began to change my eating habits. Instead of overeating or skipping meals, I opted for a much healthier alternative. I began eating six smaller-portioned meals per day. For Breakfast, I ate a package of Apple Cinnamon or Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal. For the mid-morning meal, I consumed a cup of fruit (equivalent to 3 small pieces). For lunch, I would swap between meals, either eating a small bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup or a Turkey sandwich. For the Turkey sandwich, I would prepare each ingredient which included 2.5 oz of Boar's Head Ovengold Turkey, 4 oz. of shredded Romaine lettuce, .5 oz. of Parmesan cheese, and 1 oz. of Creamy Caesar Dressing on a 10" Tortilla wrap. For my post-dinner snack, I would eat an additional cup of fruit. On my "Free Day", I would take the day to spoil myself for doing a superb job for the previous week. In my mind, I remembered my diet was dependant on Calories and portion-control.

Since initiating this workout routine 5 weeks ago, I have shed 12 lbs, while earning a new and refreshed outlook on life. Since starting the workout, I have felt more energized and full of life. If you love Dance and Rhythmic/Latin Dance grooves, then Zumba is the workout for you!
