Frozen Zune? Resetting your Microsoft Zune might be a problem since Zune.net is suffering from a virtual traffic jam at this hour, and when I last checked, Microsoft's Zune help lines were not even open yet.
Zune (2008) has, however, posted a status report on their homepage, and if you are one of the unfortunate souls who cannot access the site, here is that notice: "Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We're aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!"(para.1).
Zunes everywhere, apparently froze somewhere between midnight and 2.am. this morning. In what has been comically dubbed the 'Y2K9' or 'Z2K9', the Zune issue has caused a rash of hilarity, although the momentary (?) inconvenience does not have everyone laughing. In what seems to be a creepy irony at the time of this writing, the Zune site disappeared completely from my screen, taking my half written article with it, leaving me staring at my pretty wallpaper!
Zune or Prune? You decide. Either way, leave your Zune at home today and try it again this evening right before midnight, it might be worth seeing if there is indeed, a Y2Boo-Boo. If your Zune is rendered useless at the turn of 2009, donate your Zune to a local museum or put it away and tell your grandchildren the wondrous story of the "ZuneDoom" 30 years from now.
Microsoft's Zune is sold in most department stores, or you can pick one up online at a bargain price. I love Microsoft brand of anything, but I may revise my list and drop the Zune, for now anyway. Having said that, today would be a great day to shop for a cheap Zune, with all the post Christmas bargains out there I am assuming the line for Zunes will be shorter than most other tech gadgets. Zune's own website has Zunes for sale of course, in various colors. This may be your best way to shop, since that particular link shows no signs of being overwhelmed with traffic.
Now for some related devastating news; a report posted on Wired! Zune (November 8, 2008) said that "If you meet someone who introduces himself as Mr. Microsoft Zune, don't be surprised. Apparently this dude who is a Zune maniac got himself 3 Zune tattoos some time back. This was not enough. Now he is changing his legal name to Microsoft Zune" (para.4,5).

Post a CommentNew to me, too. Thanks for sharing.
I'm out of the loop too! Good article.
Ditto C. Jeanne - boy am I out of the technical loop! Zune was a new word to me when I got to this article!
Missing seeing this article earlier ~ I had no idea what a zune was either :)
Nicely Written :)
I stated in my article that I don't own a zune although I have it on my list of things to buy. Until recently I had no idea what a zune was. Aside from using it for a paperweight as Marsha cleverly suggested below, it might be a good idea to ask Nikki about any gadgetry your're interested in. She's our resident "gadget gal" http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/54564/nikki.html
Thanks Nikki. I know I can depend on you to explain things in terms I can even understand.
new to me, great thanks!
Well, on the plus side, my new Zune brick is keeping the papers on my desk from flying away.
Boy, you got me curious onthis one!!!!
New one for me.
